Bizen Kami Minamoto Sukekuni Katana + NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token

A real antique Japanese Katana with ko-itame hada and gunome midare choji hamon with a signature from the Kanbun period like you can't find anywhere else.

A unique katana with a powerful mei or signature. The mei has the following characters: Bizen Kami Minamoto Sukekuni (備前守源祐国). Bizen Kami implies the Lord of Bizen, Minamoto is the clan and Sukekuni is blacksmith his name. This blacksmith is known as very high quality and above average skills. Bizen Kami Minamoto Sukekuni is a swordsmith of the Ishido school.

The Ishido School follows the Bizen tradition in the Edo period of smiths like Katsumitsu, Munemitsu and Yoshitsugu. The name Ishido comes from the school's proximity to the Ishido Temple in the Gamo District.

This Japanese sword comes from the Kanbun period (寛文), which was between Manji and Enpō (April 1661 to September 1673).

Made from tamahagane according to the Japanese sword tradition that really exudes the samurai culture. The blade has a ko-itame hada with nuanced veins that emphasize the craftsmanship of the Blacksmith. This Nihonto has a deep sori, as often with swords from the early Shinto period, powerful broad and thick blade and tight chu-kissaki.

But of course the blade of this sword is what matters most and this one is of a high standard. A beautiful color jigane or steel with the beautiful hada in jinie. A dynamic gunome and midare hamon with koniedeki and deep nioikuchi. In the hachu sunagashi and kinsuij. Many parts in ashi and yo. The boshi is nicely round and makes a sharp turn.

An ubu nakago, in original condition with 1 mekugi ana. The Nakago is the tang of the Japanese sword and the swordsmiths have left the black rust on the tang so that it prevents red rust while the tang remains in the handle. You should never remove this rust because it is a good indicator for a Japanese sword specialist to estimate when the sword was forged.

Koshirae:

Tsuba: Mokko-shaped iron Tsuba. Plum trees are engraved with gold color.

Fuchikashira: Shakudo-Nanako plate, sea creatures are engraved with gold color. May Mitsunari.

Saya: Black Ishimeji Saya with uneven changes.

Menuki: Flowers are engraved.
