A real antique Katana with NBTHK Hozon from the Edo period with fantastic Koshirae and a beautiful Itame and Mokume Hada for the lover of Japanese swords.

This truly beautiful sword comes from Tenna, the Edo period, from 1681 to February 1684. Noritoshi was a respected local swordsmith and a son of Fujiwara Norifusa. Norifusa was a very active blacksmith in the Meireki period (1655 – 1658) and came from Etchu Province. Noritoshi made swords for the Tokugawa Mitsukuni. Tokugawa Mitsukuni was also known as Mito Kōmon was a prominent daimyo known for his influence in the politics of the early Edo period.

The mei or signature is So Ecchu On Norishige 24 Dai Matsuei Gofukuyama Fuji Taro Noritoshi Tsukuru Kore.

A Japanese sword with a quality jigane in excellent condition. An ubu or original tongs with saki zori. A very healthy and strong leaf with an itame and mokume with many veins in jinie. The hamon is basically suguha with a gunome midare spout and boshi is in Hakigake.

The suguta is shinogi zukuri with 1 mekugi-ana with a nakagojiri in kurijiri.

koshirae

The contrasting colors of the ivory ito and sageo against the black and dark brown aogai chirashi saya with sparkling pearls are beautiful.

An open tsuba of blackened iron with signature. A shakudo menuki with family crest (mon) and matching fuchi and kashira in shakudo. All in all a very graceful and beautifully finished sword with appealing koshirae that rightly has the NBTHK papers.
